TRIGGERS| PRAYER| COUNSELING| PLANNING
The other day I read a post of someone listing the ways they overcame anxiety. It was interesting to me. Then I realized that although there are some steps we can all take, everyone’s journey in overcoming anxiety will look different.
No matter what your journey is comprised of, everyone has triggers to their anxiety. Normally, these triggers start with a thought. However, the bible gives us a scripture about this.
Philippians 4:6 NIV says,
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
This means that in every anxious feeling, in every thought that exalts itself above the knowledge of God, with every vain imagination, address it with prayer. God knows your thoughts afar off. He knows your heart. Pray your worries to the father. This is one way we can cast all of our cares on him.
Pray and watch God move on your behalf.
Counseling is also another way to overcome anxiety. Counseling presents coping mechanisms and alternate methods of doing what we have always done. In other words, counseling helps us to create a new default setting within us. I go more into detail about counseling in my “A day in the life of a patient” vlog. At one point in my life, I struggled with anxiety very badly. I would think of all the bad things that I was worried about and never share it with a soul. I would normally be in my bed, alone, with all the lights off. Recipe for disaster. I had to learn to open my mouth and combat my thoughts. I had to learn how to create peaceful environments. I had to learn how to press into God’s presence, because in His presence fear cannot dwell.
What changes can you make? What steps can you take to overcome anxiety? Take and inventory of your life. What things present anxiety for you? Make a plan and stick to it. With God all things are possible and you can do this. You are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. Until next time, be big, be balanced, be blessed.
